Julie Prentice and her family move across the country to the idyllic Mount Adams district of Cincinnati, hoping to evade the stalker who’s been terrorizing them ever since the publication of her bestselling novel, The Murder Game. Since Julie doesn’t know anyone in her new town, when she meets her neighbor John Dunbar, their instant connection brings measured hope for a new beginning. But she never imagines that a simple, benign conversation with him could set her life spinning so far off course.
We know where you live…
After a series of misunderstandings, Julie and her family become the target of increasingly unsettling harassment. Has Julie’s stalker found her, or are her neighbors out to get her, too? As tension in the neighborhood rises, new friends turn into enemies, and the results are deadly.
I've read a lot of books by Catherine McKenzie, and this one is by far my favorite!! It hooked me right from the beginning and kept me guessing literally almost all the way to the end!
The story alternated between Julie and her neighbor, John's perspectives, and were at different time frames--Julie's chapters were in the past and John's were (usually) at the present time. You knew something BIG happened--but you don't know what! You keep getting clues as to what happened, and you think you know, and then you find out at the VERY END. So well written, suspenseful, and engaging.
Another aspect I loved was that despite the suspense and tension between the characters, the book was hilariously funny at times! One of her neighbors, Cindy, writes these hilarious neighborhood newsletters that literally made me laugh out loud.
The only thing negative I have to say about this book is the cover! I'm such a cover snob! But this cover does nothing for how amazing this book is! Honestly, the cover reminds me of those cheesy memes that say "(insert name of weather/storm that didn't happen): We will rebuild!" The title was clearly explained in the book, but that cover just didn't work.
Fractured should definitely be on your must read list for Fall!
